Police EVOC for SUV’s

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost. You must register through the Trust to avoid billing.

Police emergency vehicle operations courses (EVOC) are taught by seasoned police instructors. The prime objectives of these hands-on, skill-based seminars are: (1) officer safety, (2) protection of innocents and (3) successful law enforcement.

This one (1) day course is designed for officers who routinely are assigned to drive a SUV or prisoner transport vehicles. This course will provide officers with an opportunity to apply the skills they learned during the Basic EVOC course while driving a larger vehicle. Defensive driving techniques and emergency response tactics will be demonstrated to and practiced by those attending. The course will be 1/2 day behind the wheel driving skills that includes a response course as well as a skill course that will include backing. Students must successfully complete written and practical exams to receive certification for the course.

Officers attending should report in old clothes by 8:00 a.m.

Officers attending must bring a police department owned SUV or prisoner van to drive on the driving range.

Lunch is not included however there are a few restaurants nearby.

Microsoft PowerPoint

Open to DVHT, DVWCT and DVPLT members. $25 Co-pay due to high program cost.

The Trust’s computer workshops are intensive, hands-on programs. In this full day program, participants will learn how to develop a PowerPoint presentation. Lessons on text editing, graphical elements, tables, charts and preparing to deliver the presentation will be included.

The latest version of Office 365 will be the version used for Microsoft trainings. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Basic Chainsaw Safety

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are approximately 36,000 serious chainsaw injuries each year. Proper safety equipment and operation can greatly reduce the risk of injury when using a chainsaw. This full day workshop will review safety equipment and how to safely start and operate a chainsaw. It will also review reactive forces, directional felling, limbing and bucking, use of wedges, and storm damage and removal techniques.

Participants are required to bring a hardhat.

This event will be held rain or shine, and lunch will be provided.

Defensive Driving for Sedans

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost. You must register through the Trust to avoid billing.

This course consists of four hours in the classroom and four hours of practical driving skills. The goal of the course is to train sedan drivers in collision prevention techniques. In teaching these techniques, the course also promotes an attitude of mutual understanding, courtesy and cooperation on the road.  Topics covered include: general backing techniques, foul weather driving, crash avoidance, parking lot driving and braking techniques.

Attendees should bring a sedan vehicle to class in order to participate in the practical evaluations. Students must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Pennsylvania Operator’s License.

Lunch is not included.

HR: Law & Policies – Elective Course, Penn State Public Entity Leadership Certificate Program

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.

This workshop provides an overview of the impact of various laws and conditions affecting employment practices and the workplace. Topics include the Civil Rights Act, American with Disabilities Act, age and sexual discrimination, privacy rights, affirmative action, unemployment compensation and workers compensation.

Getting the Most from Your Grant Writing Efforts

Open to all Trust Members at no cost.

Obtaining grants is a process that requires organization and preparation. This program will break down the grant writing process into workable strategies and provide participants with the knowledge and skills for writing a successful application. It will look at matching your organization’s needs to potential funding sources and review typical grant elements. It will also review not only the importance of managing the grant process but also how to “showcase” a project in a way that is impactful and worthy of grant funding. Finally, it will cover the various methods used by grant funders to review applications and offer best practices on how to follow up with the funder and stakeholders for successful grant applications.

Class max is 30 participants. Limit one seat per member entity. A waitlist will be available in the event there are remaining seats once registration closes.

In teaching these techniques, the course also promotes an attitude of mutual understanding, courtesy and cooperation on the road.  Topics covered include: general backing techniques, foul weather driving, crash avoidance, parking lot driving and braking techniques.

Attendees should bring a work truck to class in order to participate in the practical evaluations. Students must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Pennsylvania Operator’s License (CDL if applicable).

Lunch is not included.
