Police EVOC for SUV’s

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost. You must register through the Trust to avoid billing.

Police emergency vehicle operations courses (EVOC) are taught by seasoned police instructors. The prime objectives of these hands-on, skill-based seminars are: (1) officer safety, (2) protection of innocents and (3) successful law enforcement.

This one (1) day course is designed for officers who routinely are assigned to drive a SUV or prisoner transport vehicles. This course will provide officers with an opportunity to apply the skills they learned during the Basic EVOC course while driving a larger vehicle. Defensive driving techniques and emergency response tactics will be demonstrated to and practiced by those attending. The course will be 1/2 day behind the wheel driving skills that includes a response course as well as a skill course that will include backing. Students must successfully complete written and practical exams to receive certification for the course.

Officers attending should report in old clothes by 8:00 a.m. Officers attending must bring a police department owned SUV or prisoner van to drive on the driving range.

Lunch will not be provided but there are several restaurants nearby.

Emotional Intelligence: The Secret Superpower (Virtual)

Studies show that success in our careers is not necessarily based on our IQ but more often on our EQ, or Emotional Quotient. This workshop reviews the importance of understanding your emotional intelligence and the differences between your EQ and IQ. It also reviews the five basic emotional competencies: self-awareness, handling emotions, motivation, empathy, and social skills, as well as strategies for enhancing these competencies.

CPR Training

In this training, you will learn how to recognize and respond to a victim of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), choking, bleeding, shock, and many other first-aid emergencies. As well as the proper use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

PSAB: Municipal Budgeting

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT Members.

Delaware Valley Trusts will be hosting a training event from PSAB. 

Description: One Day Session through The Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs 

Do not miss your chance to learn new tips and best practices for preparing and developing your budget, from start to finish. A budget is one of the most important documents a municipality develops and approves on an annual basis. It is a document that acts as policy, guide and communicator of priorities for appointed staff and the public alike.

Review will include: developing a budget calendar, determining fee schedules, structuring spreadsheets and narratives plus the importance of developing and coordinating the use of a capital budget with operational budgets to better stabilize tax rates and keep your community on the right track.

Cost: member- $125 / non-member- $175 / plus member- $62.50.

Delaware Valley Trusts will reimburse a Workers Compensation and/or Property and Liability member the cost of this training. The member would need to submit a receipt for reimbursement, showing proof of payment after the training has concluded to training@dvtrusts.com.

PSAB: Municipal Police Department Supervision & Oversight

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT Members.

Delaware Valley Trusts will be hosting a training event from PSAB. 

Description: One Day Session through The Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs 

Operating a police department is one of the most important and costly services provided by local governments. More than ever elected and appointed officials are facing questions about increased costs and the demand for services. There is no better time than the present for local governments to evaluate how they supervise their police force. This course will provide an overview of the legal framework in which police departments work in PA and present an overview of the elements necessary for an effective police department operation. Topic overview: organization, structure and costs associated with police operations, review of effective policies and procedures, the police hiring process and the role of elected officials in this process, high risk critical tasks and review of recent cases. Attorney Christopher P. Gerber, with the law firm of Lamb McErlane, will explain where to start, along with former Police Captain Ashley Heiberger who will review best practices in policy and operations to help you reduce the risk of liability for your municipality.

Cost: member- $150 / non-member- $200 / plus member- $75 / CLE- $60*.

*This program has been approved by the PA Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Board for 6 hours of substantive law, practice and procedure CLE credit and 0 hours of ethics, professionalism, or substance abuse CLE credit.

Defensive Driving for Trucks

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost. You must register through the Trust to avoid billing.

This course consists of four hours in the classroom and four hours of practical driving skills. The goal of the course is to train truck drivers in collision prevention techniques. In teaching these techniques, the course also promotes an attitude of mutual understanding, courtesy and cooperation on the road.  Topics covered include: general backing techniques, foul weather driving, crash avoidance, parking lot driving and braking techniques.

Attendees should bring a work truck to class in order to participate in the practical evaluations. Students must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Pennsylvania Operator’s License (CDL if applicable).

Lunch will not be provided but there are several restaurants nearby.
