Police EVOC for SUV’s

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost. You must register through the Trust to avoid billing.

Police emergency vehicle operations courses (EVOC) are taught by seasoned police instructors. The prime objectives of these hands-on, skill-based seminars are: (1) officer safety, (2) protection of innocents and (3) successful law enforcement.

This one (1) day course is designed for officers who routinely are assigned to drive a SUV or prisoner transport vehicles. This course will provide officers with an opportunity to apply the skills they learned during the Basic EVOC course while driving a larger vehicle. Defensive driving techniques and emergency response tactics will be demonstrated to and practiced by those attending. The course will be 1/2 day behind the wheel driving skills that includes a response course as well as a skill course that will include backing. Students must successfully complete written and practical exams to receive certification for the course.

Officers attending should report in old clothes by 8:00 a.m.

Officers attending must bring a police department owned SUV or prisoner van to drive on the driving range.

Lunch is not included however there are a few restaurants nearby.

Departmental Leadership – Core Course, Penn State Public Entity Leadership Certificate Program

This course is full to capacity.  Please contact us to be placed on a waitlist.

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.

This course addresses the skills necessary to run a successful public entity department or working group. It also addresses mission statements, activity planning, staffing, forecasting and budgeting.  Special emphasis will be placed on problem solving and troubleshooting for the public sector.

NOTE: Prerequisite course Leadership Fundamentals must be completed prior to enrollment.

Location for this course is the Lansdale Borough Hall, Council Chambers 1st Floor, 1 Vine St. Lansdale, PA  19446. Parking across the street in the freight house lot.

Lunch will be provided.

Assertiveness

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.

Assertiveness is the ability to confidently express one’s thoughts, feelings and actions without negatively impacting others. This workshop outlines strategies for becoming assertive without being aggressive. Participants will learn the difference between assertive and aggressive behavior, the rules for valuing yourself and others, new skills for being assertive and how to say “no” without offending others.

Cyber Security Awareness Training for Employees (Virtual)

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.  This course will also be open to DVHT members at no cost.

The human element makes a significant difference in the success of a cybersecurity program. There is no single technology or user behavior that will completely protect you or the organization from cyber incidents. Keeping you and the organization safe requires developing layers of both technical and human defenses.

The training focuses on the human element of protecting information. It will help users recognize and reduce the risk of a cybersecurity breach.

Defensive Driving for Trucks

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost. You must register through the Trust to avoid billing.

This course consists of four hours in the classroom and four hours of practical driving skills. The goal of the course is to train truck drivers in collision prevention techniques. In teaching these techniques, the course also promotes an attitude of mutual understanding, courtesy and cooperation on the road.  Topics covered include: general backing techniques, foul weather driving, crash avoidance, parking lot driving and braking techniques.

Attendees should bring a work truck to class in order to participate in the practical evaluations. Students must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Pennsylvania Operator’s License (CDL if applicable).

Lunch is not included.

Highway Workzone Safety and Flagging

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.

This training satisfies the requirements of Penn DOT Pub. 408, Sec. 901 related to minimum competencies for work zone flaggers and other road workers. Topics covered include fundamentals of work zone traffic control, project planning, personal protective equipment, placement of traffic control devices, use of shadow vehicles and proper flagging techniques.  Attendees who pass the final exam receive a certified flagger wallet card valid for three years.

This course is approved for 3 Pa. DEP water/wastewater operator contact hours.

Confined Space Entry

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.

OSHA defines “permit-required confined spaces” as a confined space that has one or more of the following characteristics:

(1) Contains or has a potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere; (2) Contains a material that has the potential for engulfing an entrant; (3) Has an internal configuration such that an entrant could be trapped or asphyxiated by inwardly converging walls or by a floor which slopes downward and tapers to a smaller cross-section; or (4) Contains any other recognized serious safety or health hazard.

This seminar discusses what constitutes a confined space, reviews potential hazards that could be contained and details best practices for protecting public employees required to work in such environments. This seminar is approved for 3 Pa. DEP water/wastewater operator contact hours.
