Coping with the Effects of Shift Work (Virtual)

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.

Shift work can cause employees to have physical problems and mental fatigue. Statistics reveal that ineffective coping with the effects of shift work can lead to higher rates of substance abuse and divorce, and the potential for mental and emotional problems. This workshop offers tips on effectively dealing with fatigue and the physiological and psychological aspects of shift work, so employees can improve their quality of life at work and at home.

Penn State University: HR Law & Strategy

Open to Property & Liability (DVPLT) and Workers’ Comp (DVWCT) members at no cost.

A key measure of success for improving productivity in any organization is based on how well leaders manage performance. An important aspect of this involves Human Resources Law. This workshop combines an overview of the impact of various laws and conditions affecting employment practices in the workplace with the key elements of an effective performance management process. Topics include the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, age and sexual discrimination, privacy rights, affirmative action, unemployment compensation and workers compensation. Also included are setting goals and expectations, using objectives/standards as performance measures and providing employee feedback.

Confined Space Entry

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.

OSHA defines “permit-required confined spaces” as a confined space that has one or more of the following characteristics:

(1) Contains or has a potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere; (2) Contains a material that has the potential for engulfing an entrant; (3) Has an internal configuration such that an entrant could be trapped or asphyxiated by inwardly converging walls or by a floor which slopes downward and tapers to a smaller cross-section; or (4) Contains any other recognized serious safety or health hazard.

This seminar discusses what constitutes a confined space, reviews potential hazards that could be contained and details best practices for protecting public employees required to work in such environments. This seminar is approved for 3 Pa. DEP water/wastewater operator contact hours. Limited space available – max of 25 participants will be enrolled.

This training will be held at West Whiteland Township, Main Meeting Room, located at 101 Commerce Drive, Exton, PA 19341. This course covers the essential competencies for leading employees in the public sector. The essential competencies are required for a supervisor or manager to be effective.  Techniques in leadership and motivation, coaching and mentoring will be shared.  Additional topics include interpersonal styles and effective communication.

PSAB Your Role as a Municipal Secretary/Administrator

In partnership with the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs, the Delaware Valley Property & Liability Trust (DVPLT) is pleased to reimburse members (limit two per member entity) for the following two-day course:

Tuesday, April 8, 2025 and Wednesday, April 9, 2025

9:00 am to 3:30 pm

Location: Delaware Valley Trusts, 719 Dresher Road, Horsham, PA 19044

Description: Review will include information on how local government is organized and its function, important municipal codes, key functions of the secretary/administrator, meetings, legislation, public notices, records management, citizen relations and professional resources. This course will also review records management, reports, financial management, communicating with elected officials, the Sunshine Act, and best practices. This training fee includes access to two recorded webinars to help with state report filing and basic planning & zoning administration.

Cost: $150/PSAB members and $200/non-PSAB members. Morning refreshments and lunch are included. You must register directly with PSAB (see below).

Steps for Registration and Reimbursement

Drugs and Alcohol – Training for Supervisors of DOT Regulated Employees

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.

This training will be held at Delaware Valley Trusts located at 719 Dresher Rd. Horsham, PA 19044. The Department of Transportation (DOT) Regulation 382.603 requires employers to ensure that any person designated to supervise DOT-regulated employees receives at least 60 minutes of training on alcohol abuse and an additional 60 minutes on controlled substance use. This training helps supervisors and managers determine whether reasonable suspicion exists to require an employee to undergo screening. Participants will also learn about the latest information on the opioid epidemic and receive a Certificate of Completion for this training.
