This course addresses the skills necessary to run a successful public entity department or working group. It also addresses mission statements, activity planning, staffing, forecasting and budgeting. Special emphasis will be placed on problem solving and troubleshooting for the public sector. NOTE: Prerequisite course Leadership Fundamentals must be completed prior to enrollment.

Bucks County Law Enforcement Training presents Basic Field Training Officer April 14 – 16, 2025 0800 – 1600 hrs.
This three-day course is designed for new Field Training Officers (FTO’s) and provides the tools necessary to train and evaluate new hires during the field training process. It provides an overview of the FTO’s role in the development of new hires including performance management, coaching and motivating, and providing both standardized training as well as other training opportunities.

This training will be held at the Springfield Township Municipal Building, located in Montgomery County at 1510 Paper Mill Road Wyndmoor, PA 19038. This training satisfies the requirements of Penn DOT Pub. 408, Sec. 901 related to minimum competencies for work zone flaggers and other road workers. Topics covered include fundamentals of temporary traffic control, project planning, personal protective equipment, placement of traffic control devices, use of shadow vehicles and proper flagging techniques. Attendees who pass the final exam receive a certified flagger wallet card valid for three years. This course is approved for 3 Pa. DEP water/wastewater operator contact hours.

This workshop provides legal and policy actions that can be exercised by supervisors. General information on drug & alcohol abuse is reviewed, as well as the signs and symptoms of abuse. Case studies are used to illustrate steps, and do’s and don’ts managers can use to confront employees who they suspect of being under the influence. Barriers to confrontation and enabling behaviors are also addressed.

The morning workshop, Effective Writing, will explore methods and tools to interact and communicate successfully with others, both verbally and in writing. It will review strategies and techniques for writing letters, memos, and emails effectively. In the afternoon, the Presentation Skills workshop will introduce the tools and concepts for developing a Presentation Plan for managers. Additional topics will include strategies for dealing with presentation stress, effective use of audio-visual aids and responding to inquiry/conflict.

Proper safety equipment and operation can greatly reduce the risk of injury when using a chainsaw. This full day workshop will review safety equipment and how to safely start and operate a chainsaw. It will also review reactive forces, directional felling, limbing and bucking, use of wedges, and storm damage and removal techniques. Participants are required to bring a hardhat and ear protection.

This seminar equips managers and supervisors with the skills to integrate safety into their organization’s operations. Through effective communication, participants will learn how to positively influence risk perception, attitudes, and behaviors, fostering a work environment where safety is a fundamental priority.
Participants will learn communication skills to foster engagement, how to implement the elements of a strong safety system, build operational defenses to prevent injuries, and how best to respond after an incident occurs to identify proper corrective actions to prevent their reoccurrence. The key learnings are conveyed through examples, best practices, hands-on demonstrations, and group problem solving.
This course is designed specifically for managers and supervisors to develop leadership-focused safety skills. Employees seeking general injury prevention training should take the Injury Prevention Fundamentals course instead. This course is facilitated by DVT Risk Control Staff.
