Violence Prevention in the Workplace for Managers (Virtual)

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.

Workplace violence is a serious issue and while one session cannot completely resolve it, it can help minimize risk through education and prevention. Participants will gain an understanding of what constitutes workplace violence and the factors that contribute. Throughout the session we discuss the early warning signs of potential violence, as well as techniques that can be used to help diffuse situations before they escalate.

Through real-world examples and guided discussion, emerging leaders will develop the skills necessary to serve as reliable advisors, uphold ethical standards, and help elected officials achieve shared community goals.

Doylestown Borough Verbal De-Escalation for Non-Law Enforcement

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT Members at no cost.

This course reviews verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques for non-law enforcement public entity employees including administration, public works, parks and recreation, and library personnel. It discusses the various physical and mental barriers to communication and possible alternative responses. Participants will learn verbal and non-verbal forms of communication and their impact on the de-escalation process.

Description: Do not miss your chance to learn new tips and best practices for preparing and developing your budget, from start to finish. A budget is one of the most important documents a municipality develops and approves on an annual basis. It is a document that acts as policy, guide and communicator of priorities for appointed staff and the public alike.

Review will include: developing a budget calendar, determining fee schedules, structuring spreadsheets and narratives plus the importance of developing and coordinating the use of a capital budget with operational budgets to better stabilize tax rates and keep your community on the right track.

Cost: $125/PSAB members and $175/non-PSAB members. Morning refreshments and lunch are included. You must register directly with PSAB (see below).

Steps for Reimbursement:

Property & Liability Trust (DVPLT) members should first contact the Delaware Valley Trusts to confirm availability by e-mailing training@dvtrusts.com or by calling 267-803-5720. Register directly with PSAB by visiting www.training.boroughs.org. After completing the course, forward proof of completion and payment to training@dvtrusts.com. Upon approval, Delaware Valley Trusts will issue a reimbursement check (up to two per member entity).

Defensive Driving for Trucks

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost. You must register through the Trust to avoid billing.

This course consists of four hours in the classroom and four hours of practical driving skills. The goal of the course is to train truck drivers in collision prevention techniques. In teaching these techniques, the course also promotes an attitude of mutual understanding, courtesy and cooperation on the road.  Topics covered include: general backing techniques, foul weather driving, crash avoidance, parking lot driving and braking techniques.

Attendees should bring a work truck to class in order to participate in the practical evaluations. Students must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Pennsylvania Operator’s License (CDL if applicable).

Lunch will not be provided but there are several restaurants nearby.

Police EVOC for SUV’s

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost. You must register through the Trust to avoid billing.

Police emergency vehicle operations courses (EVOC) are taught by seasoned police instructors. The prime objectives of these hands-on, skill-based seminars are: (1) officer safety, (2) protection of innocents and (3) successful law enforcement.

This one (1) day course is designed for officers who routinely are assigned to drive a SUV or prisoner transport vehicles. This course will provide officers with an opportunity to apply the skills they learned during the Basic EVOC course while driving a larger vehicle. Defensive driving techniques and emergency response tactics will be demonstrated to and practiced by those attending. The course will be 1/2 day behind the wheel driving skills that includes a response course as well as a skill course that will include backing. Students must successfully complete written and practical exams to receive certification for the course.

Officers attending should report in old clothes by 8:00 a.m.

Officers attending must bring a police department owned SUV or prisoner van to drive on the driving range.

Lunch will not be provided but there are several restaurants nearby.
