Help Us to Help You – Timely Claim Reporting

By Mark Harris, DVPLT Claims Manager

One of the most important actions when dealing with a new claim is timely reporting. Regardless of the situation, the sooner you get the claim to us, the better we can serve you and handle the claim on your behalf. It allows us to fully investigate the claim while the evidence and everyone’s memory of the loss is fresh. Whether it is a video of the loss, an alleged hazard such as snow and ice that will change or disappear over time, or a witness that we would like to speak to before we lose contact, timely reporting gives us a better opportunity to protect your interests.

This is especially important with Property losses. Please report these to us as soon as they occur. By doing so, we can see if there is another party that is responsible for the damages and pursue subrogation on your behalf to recover your deductible. If the claim is not reported right away and we are unable to inspect the damages before changes are made, critical evidence could be lost impacting our recovery efforts. Did you know that we recovered just under $1.3 Million from Auto and Property losses last year?

With you helping us with the timely reporting of all claims, we can help you by recovering payments made due to someone else’s negligence. This has an impact on your overall insurance experience and costs.

Thank you in advance for your partnership and please reach out to any Property and Liability Trust member with any questions.

As a reminder, DVPLT Members can submit a claim directly on the Trust’s website (log-in required).
