Event Overview

Open to DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.

“With great power comes great responsibility” is both the most overused meme of our time, and an excellent lead-in to this course. Police officers are empowered by both federal and state law with the right to use reasonable force in the performance of their duties.  Reform efforts seek, sometimes with the best of intentions, to chip away at that right, leaving the front-line officer and supervisor unclear as to what the law currently allows.  In this course, we will cover the basics of the law on the use of force, real-world examples of lawsuits alleging its misuse and the status of current efforts to re-shape the discussion through legislation.

Virtual Presentation via Zoom – a Zoom link with instructions will be sent to registrants about a week prior to the class.
