There is no greater exposure to a municipality and its Police Department than that associated with the safety of individuals in custody. Cases of deaths in custody regularly result in seven figure judgments and settlements in addition to a tragic loss of life. Thankfully, risk mitigation measures that are easily implemented, many at little or no cost, are available. This course is designed to highlight the risks, best practices and procedures for cell blocks and custody of prisoners. It also covers suicide prevention measures, special procedures and requirements for juveniles in custody, and ways to stay out of federal court as a defendant.
