The Delaware Valley Workers’ Compensation Trust (DVWCT) is pleased to host this informative annual workshop. This year’s session focuses on the defense of a red flag claim during the pendency of employment HR matters as well as the role of utilizing a special investigation unit.

We encourage DVWCT Risk Control Contacts, Managers, Police Chiefs and Command Staff as well as Department Heads and emerging Local Government Leadership to attend.

This presentation offers insights into the collaborative strategies required to effectively defend against a challenging “red-flag” workers’ compensation claim.  Complicating factors include disciplinary charges, ADA, honorable discharge, grievance and unemployment compensation.  This drama-filled case study underscores how a multi-disciplinary approach can lead to favorable outcomes for the employer.

10:15 a.m.     Special Investigations – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

While the vast majority of injured employees are honorable, a few may seek to illegally profit from the benefit. This presentation focuses on options for employers when faced with – the “red flag” or malingering employee. The role and benefits of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and Virtual Information Analysis (VIA) will be discussed.  We will also review the benefits of mining public information sources such as social media profiles and activity, business records, property data, court records and much more. You’ll be amazed at what investigators have discovered over the years!

Hearing loss claims among public sector employees are on the rise.  This presentation provides a concise review of the most common causes of hearing loss.  Next, practical strategies employers can implement to protect this important human sense will be reviewed.  You definitely want to remove your ear plugs for this presentation!
