Event Overview

Open to DVHT, DVWCT and DVPLT members at no cost.

This course will introduce a variety of map applications designed to help local government leverage geographic information to improve government activities, such as planning and zoning, and enhance services delivered to the general public. Simple GIS mapping software tools and map applications will be introduced including ESRI’s ArcGIS Online, PennDOT’s OneMap, Google My Maps and Software as a Service (SaaS) applications such as PESTlogics. Participants will learn steps to create a Web Map Application (Story Maps) that can be used to inform the general public, residents and businesses about upcoming events and projects. Several examples will be presented including a Public Information Story Map for an upcoming roadway construction project and a Story Map that visualizes a community’s public engagement efforts to support a funding request for a corridor revitalization plan.  It will also introduce mobile field data collection workflows using GPS/GNSS receivers with your own mobile device (e.g. smart phone, iPad, etc.).
